Our products 6063 alloy strength
The 6063 aluminum alloy is a widely used heat-treatable alloy known for its good extrudability, corrosion resistance, and moderate strength. It is commonly used in architectural, automotive, and structural applications.
The strength of 6063 aluminum profiles depends on their temper (heat treatment condition). The most common tempers are T5, T6, and T52.
Temper | Tensile Strength (MPa) | Yield Strength (0.2% Offset, MPa) | Elongation (%) | Hardness (Brinell HB) |
---|---|---|---|---|
T5 | 145–186 | 110–145 | 8–12 | 60–75 |
T6 | 186–241 | 145–186 | 8–12 | 75–95 |
Heat Treatment (Temper):
T5 (Cooled from extrusion and artificially aged): Moderate strength, good for structural applications.
T6 (Solution heat-treated and artificially aged): Higher strength than T5, used where greater mechanical properties are needed.
Alloy Composition:
Primarily Al-Mg-Si (Magnesium & Silicon improve strength through precipitation hardening).
Extrusion Process:
Proper extrusion and cooling rates affect grain structure and mechanical properties.
6061-T6: Stronger (~310 MPa tensile) but less extrudable.
6063-T6: Better for intricate profiles, smoother finish, but lower strength.
